The MRC Cancer Unit (MRC CU) is a University Department situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It provides an outstanding environment for cancer research, supporting some 10 research groups and ~150 bench scientists. 
The successful candidate will be joining Dr Sakari Vanharanta’s research group working on the molecular basis of cancer. The focus is on cell signaling and transcriptional pathways responsible for metastatic cancer progression. Further information can be found here: Vanharanta Research Group

We are seeking applicants with a recent PhD in Cancer Biology, Cancer Genetics, Genomics or a relevant subject. A track record of peer-reviewed publications is desirable, as is practical experience in experimental laboratory work. Candidates should be able to demonstrate their capability of abstract thinking as well as their potential to develop and pursue scientific projects in the field of cancer biology. Experience in bioinformatic analysis of large-scale data sets (e.g. microarray or high-throughput sequencing) is a distinct advantage. Applicants must be able to work effectively as part of a tea and be a good communicator (oral and written).

The position is available immediately for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary will be on the scale £28,695 - £37,394cpa (Grade 7) dependant on relevant postdoctoral experience. Candidates due to complete their PhD within 6 months of their start date will also be considered; in this case applicants would be appointed at the Research Assistant level with a salary scale of £24,775 - £27,864 pa (Grade 5), advancing to a Grade 7 Research Associate position following the conferment of your PhD.
