Rebecca Fitzgerald
Outreach
Our group has a particular interest in public outreach, and communicating our research work to audiences outside of the scientific community.
Rebecca and members of her group have visited several schools in the region, delivering roadshow events on 'Gurgling Guts'. The roadshows are aimed at keystage two pupils, and explore the journey that food makes once it's been eaten. The pictures below are of a visit in 2009 to Borough Green Primary School.

Members of the Fitzgerald group are involved in the organisation of the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre and MRC Cancer Cell Unit's contribution to the annual Cambridge Science Festival. This is an event which attracts thousands of visitors of all ages. Go to the Hutch Public Outreach and Education and News pages to learn more about this year's event.
Rebecca has also regularly spoken to professional audiences of non-cancer researchers about her work.

A regular participant in many of these events has been our colleague, Norman. With his removable organs and various types of tissue, Norman allows us to easily demonstrate complex concepts to audiences ranging from children to other scientists. Thanks to funding from the MRC, Norman was specially designed for our group as a public outreach tool and has proved to be a valuable resource. |
If you would like to discuss public outreach opportunities with us in more detail, please contact the MRC CCU Scientific Communications Manager in the first instance. |
