Basic research in the laboratory in undertaken in three major areas:
- Understanding how Barrett’s oesophagus develops and identifying the cellular and molecular factors that induce, or are involved, in its onset.
- Finding new tools and specific biomarkers that will allow diagnosis at an earlier stage and identification of patients who are at a higher risk of developing cancer.
- Improving the outcome and management of cancer patients.
